About SAFEGUARDING

Safeguarding is the action you take to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

In general Child protection is part of the safeguarding process. It focuses on protecting individual children who could be identified as suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm.

The IDO safeguarding and child protection policy is an important part of protecting children and young people in a competition setting.

CHILD PROTECTION POLICY

Safeguarding within a dance environment is:

CERTIFICATION

As of 1 January 2027, all official personnel at IDO competitions, including chairpersons, supervisors, adjudicators, scrutineers, moderators, DJs—as well as national team staff (trainers, teachers, choreographers, medical support personnel, organizers’ staff, and others), must:

  • Image
    Hold a valid IDO Safeguarding for Children Certificate.
  • Image
    Be registered for each IDO event via the IDO website.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To obtain the IDO Safeguarding Certificate, candidates must:

    1. Register through the relevant IDO National Member Organization.
    2. Successfully complete two modules:
      • IDO Safeguarding 1
      • IDO Safeguarding 2
    3. Complete an informal online test after each module.
    4. Comply with all IDO policies, including:
      • IDO Safeguarding Policy for Children
      • IDO Code of Ethics and Conduct
      • IDO Statutes and By-Laws

DATES OF EDUCATION

The IDO Safeguarding education program will commence on 1 August 2026 and will be conducted online. The education schedule in 2026 is as follows:
